The Admiralty Road West Royale: Why Playing Traffic Police Will Only Get You Broken Teeth and a Changi Vacation

Aiyoh, this whole drama at Admiralty Road West really proves that some Singaporeans got zero chill once they step into a car!

We all know traffic in Singapore can test anyone’s patience—what with peak-hour jams, sudden cut-ins, and people hogging the right lane at 60 km/h—but this particular incident takes the absolute cake for how fast a normal, everyday commute can transform into an action-packed Singapore Social Drama.

It all started around 1:00 PM on April 5, 2026, on what should have been a completely routine afternoon. A 40-year-old driver named Jereme Quek Han Fei was cruising near the junction of Admiralty Road West and Woodlands Avenue 10, minding his own business.

Everything was peaceful until he looked over and spotted a van driver, Tran Nhat Sinh, casually using his mobile phone while behind the wheel.

Now, let’s be fair: using a phone while driving is definitely dangerous, illegal, and downright irresponsible. We all get annoyed when we see it.

But instead of just tut-tutting, shaking his head, or quietly saving his dashcam footage to upload to Facebook or SG Road Vigilante later like a proper law-abiding Singaporean, Jereme’s brain completely short-circuited. He decided today was the day he would become the official Singapore Road Avenger.

Auto-triggered to maximum capacity, Jereme immediately flew into an uncontrollable rage. He began spamming his horn like he was playing the drums, screaming vulgarities through his open window, and tailgating the van so closely you couldn’t even fit a piece of paper between them.

But aggressive tailgating wasn’t enough to satisfy his righteous fury. To make things even more dramatic, Jereme suddenly slammed on the accelerator, aggressively overtook the van, and jammed his brakes right in the middle of a busy three-lane road. Because clearly, almost causing a massive, multi-car chain collision is the absolute best way to educate someone about road safety, right? Flawless logic.

Jereme then threw his car into park, unbuckled his seatbelt, and stepped out onto the road with his smartphone held high.

He was recording the entire approach, walking up to the van like an investigative journalist filing a live report for TikTok. Unlucky for him, his own in-car camera was also capturing the whole ridiculous incident in crystal-clear high definition.

But Tran wasn’t feeling camera-ready that day. Feeling cornered and annoyed by the mobile phone camera shoved near his face, the van driver reached out through the window and snatched Jereme’s phone right out of his hand.

Total chaos unlocked! Super pek chek, Jereme completely lost whatever little composure he had left. He yanked open the driver-side door of the van, delivered a loud, stinging SLAP right across Tran’s face, and immediately attempted to slam the door shut and pull back—resembling a primary school kid trying to run away after ringing a neighbor’s doorbell.

But plot twist: Tran wasn’t just going to sit there and take a slap lying down. The van driver threw open his door, jumped out onto the tarmac, and went full street fighter on Jereme.

Punches started flying immediately, and Jereme quickly learned that real-life vigilante work doesn’t come with movie stunt doubles or a script.

Tran beat him up so thoroughly that Jereme ended up needing a trip straight to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for fractured teeth, a split lip, and a face covered in bloody scratches.

The two grown men were full-on brawling right in the middle of active traffic until a brave third motorist had to pull over, hazard lights blinking, and play primary school counselor just to pull the two bruised egos apart.

Fast forward to court day, and the bill for playing hero finally came back—and it was super bo hua.

Jereme pleaded guilty to committing a rash act that endangered the personal safety of others, with two other related charges taken into consideration.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Intan Suhaily Abu Bakar didn’t hold back, arguing that stopping dead center in a three-lane road put the entire public at risk, and pushed for a heavier sentence of 2 to 4 weeks in jail.

In his mitigation plea, Jereme tried to play the tragic hero card. He highlighted that he was a first-time offender and pleaded for a 5-week delay before starting his sentence, explaining that he needed time to settle his work commitments and arrange care for his father, who currently resides in a nursing home.

Seeing the request to delay jail time, the prosecution immediately stood up and asked the court to bump his bail from $10,000 to $15,000 just in case he decided to make a run for it.

The judge ultimately gave him chance on the extra bail money and handed down a 9-day jail sentence alongside a 6-month driving ban—which, all things considered, was lighter than what the prosecutor wanted.

However, the judge looked straight over at Jereme’s wife—who was standing in as his bailor—and gave her a stern, public warning to keep a tight leash on her husband so he actually shows up on time to serve his sentence. Meanwhile, Tran the van driver is also facing his own separate day in court for his part in the brawl.

The Kopitiam Takeaway

At the end of the day, driving while using a phone is bad, but trying to play Batman on Singapore roads is infinitely worse and way more expensive.

Next time you see someone driving like a sotong or staring at their screen, just tap your brakes, keep your distance, and report it to LTA or Traffic Police.

Going out of your way to block three lanes of traffic, throw slaps, lose your front teeth, lose your driving licence, and end up spending a week in Changi Prison—really total loss!
