Scammer Try To Extort Braised Duck Stall, Forget To Check Opening Hours First! (Wah Lau Eh!)

Wah lau eh, Singapore scammers nowadays really getting lazier and lazier! Last time scammers need to write proper script, now even basic homework also don’t want to do. Brain haven’t load finish, already want to go and extortion people!

So recently, got one Auntie Scammer try to play stunt with Ah Xiao Braised Duck.

She WhatsApped the 38-year-old hawker boss, Bai-ge, showing a photo of some mystery white thing on a dish and went full Karen mode:

“Eh! Your food got fly eggs! Pay me compensation money now, if not I post 1-star review online and report you to government, make your business jiak kentang!”

Because Bai-ge was busy chopping duck and making a living, he didn’t reply straight away. Then swee swee a phone call came in from a Malaysia-registered number, with a woman speaking in a heavy accent, nagging him to check WhatsApp immediately to transfer cash.

Enter Hawker Detective Mode 🕵️‍♂️

Now, Bai-ge is young and alert—not those blur uncles who get scared the moment someone mentions “government report”. He stayed calm, put on his CID detective hat, and hit her with the classic Singaporean interrogation:

“Wah, like that ah? You buy from which specific stall? What dish you eat? How much you pay?”

The scammer suddenly blur like squid. She could only name the coffee shop location, but couldn’t name the actual stall, couldn’t say what dish she ate, and couldn’t even state the price.

Then came the absolute golden moment where she dug her own grave…

The 3PM OT Duck Legend 🕒

She proudly told the boss: “I bought the food at 3pm lah!”

Bai-ge almost laughed until his meat cleaver dropped onto the floor.

He told her: “Aiyoh sister, my stall closes at 1pm sharp every single day! By 3pm, I already wash floor and go home sleep liao! My braised ducks got do OT shift at 3pm to cook and sell themselves to you, is it?”

Realising she completely kantao (busted), the scammer hung up the phone and blocked his number faster than a Singaporean chope-ing a hawker table with a packet of tissue.

Moral Of The Story 💡

Bai-ge later posted on the Hawkers United Facebook group to warn all other hawker uncles and aunties: Scammers now like to steal hawker contact numbers online, send fake photos of insects or dirty food, and threaten them for fast money.

If you are a hawker and get these fake messages, don’t panic! Just ask them simple questions about what time they bought the food. Make them expose their own clown logic!

And to the scammer: Next time you want to extortion a Singapore hawker stall, please check their opening hours on Google first, lah! 🤡
